The 2000 ball attracted 420 guests and raised £21,000. This also led on to me winning the Charity
Support of the Year Award for which I was truly proud of. I had so much support that I decided to
hold another ball in June 2001 and this time the proceeds went again to Professor Johnson and Jane
Scarth House.
The befriending centre in Romsey is where I was counselled by Jane Scoones, who has since sadly
passed away from this terrible illness. Jane will always hold a special place in my heart, her support
kept me going!
The evening raised £15,000 with Countess Mounbatten House and “Simon Says” also benefiting.
Two years later on 6th September 2003 the Summer Ball raised an incredible £23,000, proceeds
were to help Professor Johnson, Jane Scarth House and as always a donation to Countess Mountbatten House. Great
entertainment organised by the great Alex Ashe and Motown Magic. Alex is always on hand to serenade and get the
mood going.
The Fourth Dave Wellman Summer Ball 2005 was held on Saturday 16th July. The venue was the beautiful and very
grand NV in Southampton's High Street. The food was exquisite and apart from the evening being one of the hottest
days of the year, the evening went without a hitch and the guests were in very high spirits.
This year I was very pleased to welcome Alvin as Elvis, who wowed the crowd with his great hits and humour. As always, Mike Osman was there to get
me organized and as always, raise loads of money on the evening from the Auction. The Evening started with a Champagne reception and before Guests
dined, the lovely Rhian Jones sang an emotional rendition of the beautiful song "The Rose" which is the emblem of the organisation.
Whilst dining, Jack White who was only then 12, sang a couple of soulful tracks to get people in the mood. Jack has such a big voice and I am sure that
along with Rhian, they will be names we will hear a lot of in the future. On offer, was a great Las Vegas Holiday won by Anita and Paul Spencer and kindly
sponsored by Harding Holdings. We raised on the night was just over £18,000.00, another fantastic sum, and this included donations from people who
have been kind enough to hold their own fundraising events, thus helping me in my continued work.
2007 saw “The Finale” with an amazing show by some of the cast of the London’s West End show “The Rat Pack”. And straight from his amazing “Dean
Martin & Friends” Tour. Mark Adams with all the musicians and singers the “Gold Diggers”and special guest Colin Roy, from the West End show “The
House That Nat Built” entertained the 390 guests. Mike Osman on hand as always, helping us to raise a fantastic sum on the night of nearly £30.000
All at the “Finale” ball had a wonderful night, and since taking that break, which did not come easy; my own family has suffered loss and illness, which I
know we can all relate too. This of course has made me more determined with many requests for me to organise another ball. Therefore, I am getting
back in that saddle and I will ride for my life to try to make a difference. It seems that if we did not do what we do, the care and treatment we get may
not be so forthcoming. Research, research, research, I cannot stress enough how vital this is. Thank you to all my wonderful supporters, you have raised
over £130.000, which continues to help those fighting this terrible disease.
The 2011 Ball was a great evening with yet another great amount raosed of £24.000 and this money will help research, care and individual support to
those living with cancer!
The 2013 Winter Wonderland Ball thanks Kev Orkian, Micky Pugh and Alex Ashe for entertaining the Guests - Thank you to my new
